The return of Barney Fag?

Remember back in 1995 when then-House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Tex.), a renowned opponent of gay rights, referred to Barney Frank as "Barney Fag" in a press interview? He claimed it was only "a slip of the tongue" but as Barney noted at the time, "I turned to my own expert, my mother, who reports that in 59 years of marriage, no one ever introduced her as Elsie Fag."
Now we're seeing the emergence of "Obama Bin Laden," and I would file it away as things that make you go hmm…

You can cut them all some slack, but you have to wonder if this sort of things catches on, whether the Barney Fag phenom has returned.

I have to agree with Stephen. Obama and Osama are very similar. The supposed "slip-ups" of Barney Frank's last name are not credible. They were done on purpose.

And in both situations, they've been very effective at shifting the debate from the actual issues (and both Frank's and Obama's status as do-nothing politicians) to a dialogue about what victims of prejudice they are.

I agree that these were not on par w/ the Barney Frank slip; I don't think Dick Armey meant to say that on camera, but he inadvertently provided evidence of how he likely referred to Mr. Frank behind closed doors.
The Obama/Osama slips are more forgiveable in my opinion, considering that Barrack Obama and Osama Bin Laden remain highly-discussed in the public dialogue. I would still suggest however, that simply too much recorded video exists of clueless people on panels, podiums and talk shows yapping about things they have not clearly thought out. 3/3 were caucasian, presumably wealthy, in positions of privilege...maybe there is a pattern here?

since it was barney frank who introduced legislation that some are claiming to be a major reason on this bailout mess - i think if the american people got their hands on him, being called a fag would be the least of his problems.

Barney Fag is responsible for all this mortgage mess. He was boning some dude who worked at Fannie Mae at the time which is why he relaxed all the regulations. Too bad the prick is not man enough to admit it. He is such a prick.

You can't account for taste, Nick. Even Barbara Bush got married, and she's the spitting image of George Washington, c. 1792. That's not really attractive to most people, male and female. Of course, she then spawned evil itself, so maybe there is something to really vile ugly people not procreating.

Much as I hate to admit it, I think this case is different than the Barney Frank incident for the following reasons:
1. "Obama" and "Osama" are only one letter away from each other.
2. Both "Obama" and "Osama" are two people heavily in the minds of most Americans recently.
While I am suspicious of certain people making this slip, and I do believe it has been done intentionally on occasion, I am willing to give most people the benefit of the doubt, especially if they apologize after the fact.
