Gay escorts say the darn'dest things

    Posted by: Chris

Mattsanchezstill The blogosphere is all a-twitter with news that the handsome Latino Marine on all the news programs this week once worked in gay porn and advertised his services as an escort.

No, not that handsome Latino Marine, Edward Alva, who appeared at a press conference with Democratic Rep. Marty Meehan of Massachusetts calling for repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

I'm talking about that handsome Latino Marine, Matt Sanchez who did the "O'Reilly" "Hannity" rounds to complain about how some socialist students at Columbia University were mean to him for being a minority in the military.

Blogger Joe.My.God gives the blow by blow:

If you are familiar with Cpl. Matt Sanchez, you probably know him as the handsome 36-year old Columbia University junior and USMC reservist who recently made the rounds of right-wing talk shows like "O'Reilly Factor" and "Hannity & Colmes," where he received praise for coming forward and complaining about his treatment at the hands of Columbia's "radical anti-military students" who called him names and mocked his military service. Sanchez was then feted at the CPAC conference where Ann Coulter made her "faggot" remark. Sanchez wrote an op-ed piece on the Columbia experience for the NY Post and began a blog and MySpace page chronicling his media exposure. …

Sanchez' face tinkled a few gay bells out there in fairyland, and [it turns out] Sanchez has had a lengthy career in gay porn, working under the names Rod Majors (NSFW) and Pierre LaBranche.

Sanchez hasn't denied anything, and since early posts by Joe and Tom Bacchus, blogger extraordinaire Andy Towle revealed that he actually went out on a few dates with Sanchez back in the late '80s. Since then, Sanchez has apparently given Joe a half-hour interview that left the liberal blogger impressed that the Columbia conservative is no "dumb bunny."

Sanchezcoulter It will be interesting to see how the Sanchez story breaks.  Liberals will scream "hypocrite!" which is their absolute favorite catch-all criticism. As applied to Sanchez, the charge seems particularly unfair.  I'm not particularly sympathetic to his argument that Columbia should discipline his tormenters — if anything, there's your hypocrisy, since conservatives are supposed to be against campus speech regulations. But if you believe that gays should be able to serve in the military, and that there's nothing wrong with adult entertainment, then it's Sanchez service in uniform, not his servicing out of uniform, that should matter.

Ericalva Or maybe some liberals will argue, as they did with Jeff Gannon before, that somehow it's hypocritical to be gay, conservative and have a sex life.  I'm not sure they realize what they're really arguing: that something about selling sex for money (whether on film or in person) should make you a leftie.

The real travesty here is that coverage of Sanchez will dwarf coverage of Alva, who was the first U.S. service member injured in Iraq — he lost part of his leg — and his story of service with fear that he would be outed and discharged.

For video of Sanchez (on "O'Reilly," alas, not from his early work), follow the jump:

individuality is the enemy of socialism. Moral quandaries are an anathema to the pundit. Together they work to wipe all trace of private thought from the airwaves.

    1. Tim on Mar 7, 2007 12:54:46 PM:

The problem that most liberal people will have is the difference of making your living and dating gay people, and then working with legislators that work with passion to deny them rights.

    1. KJ on Mar 7, 2007 3:17:07 PM:

I don't know. I think that it's a toss up between "hypocrite" and self-loathing" as the favorite liberal catch-all criticism.

    1. Matthew Rettenmund on Mar 7, 2007 6:35:55 PM:

I think "hypocrite" is a favorite criticism of hypocrites. But also, yes, aligning yourself with Republicans who by and large (size matters) support criminalizing sodomy DOES mean it's hypocritical to be in their ranks, be gay and have a sex life.

    1. George on Mar 7, 2007 9:56:27 PM:

This guy passed himself as a military man wronged by liberals and pacifists, knowing full well that the very military he served and the right wing pundits whose empathy and good graces he sought would've dumped his ass in a minute, if they knew he'd been a gay porn star, escort or even had sex with another man! That is hypocrisy and liberal or conservative, if you can't see and admit it for what it is, you're either lying to yourself or really, really obtuse!

    1. Jared on Mar 7, 2007 10:07:11 PM:

So, now that his gay past is out, I wonder how long before the Marines will be handing Sanchez his discharge?

    1. Jim on Mar 8, 2007 2:37:14 PM:

Guys paid for that?! Damn I am in the wrong business! The bar is low I guess.

    1. tim on Mar 8, 2007 4:55:16 PM:

He didn't work with any legislators, he got some awards for standing up for military rights and respect at his campus. For that he's called a staunch self loather? get it together guys your attacking fellow gays for not hating the same people you hate.

    1. ed on Mar 9, 2007 12:45:45 AM:

The hypocrisy lies with the CPAC and other conservatives, I could care less about what Matt Sanchez does or says. This story is bigger than one man. It exposes the conservative movement for what it truly is: empty and void of any meaning. They are only interested in their own power and constantly trip over themselves in their attempts to attain that power.

    1. North Dallas Thirty on Mar 9, 2007 5:33:39 PM:

"The problem that most liberal people will have is the difference of making your living and dating gay people, and then working with legislators that work with passion to deny them rights."

Bull. Given that I have yet to see any Kerry campaign staffer ( http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2001999067_kerrygay07.html ) or DNC employee ( http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/politics/060510a.aspx ) be criticized for "working with legislators that work with passion to deny them rights", that's obviously not the issue for liberals.

What IS the issue is that Sanchez is conservative, and therefore must be destroyed. So the same hands, like Towle and JoeMyGod, who shilled and pandered endlessly in support of people who support state constitutional amendments to strip gays of rights, taking tens of millions of dollars from gays and gay organizations, start throwing "hypocrite" and "self-loathing" stones at Sanchez.

    1. Willy on Mar 9, 2007 5:39:03 PM:

Sanchez says that his bad experiences in the liberal world of porn made him into a conservative. I quite strongly suspect a different truth.

He is featured in at least 34 porn flicks, and the reviews (for whatever they're worth) of his "performances" were decidedly mixed. I say that Mr. Sanchez is overexposed, is far from a star and is getting a little long in the tooth at the ripe old age of, what is it, 37?

It was time for a new gig. And if there's one thing a man-whore knows how to do, it's how to tell people what they want to hear. Joke's on the Republicans!

By the way, if someone decides to become a public figure, the details of their prior "careers" are fair game. If this guy had been a Democrat posing as a marine against the war, you can bet that the Republicans would have gleefully exposed all of this.

    1. Willy on Mar 9, 2007 10:01:00 PM:

By the way, it's offensive to equate Edward Alva, who was not a prostitute and who was wounded on the battlefield in service to his country, with Matt Sanchez, a whore who has never so much broken a fingernail for his country.

What makes them similar? That they are both attractive, gay and Latino? Gee, Ted Bundy was an attractive, heterosexual and white. I guess he can be linked to David Dreier then.

Oops, wrong link. Dreier is a closeted gay Republican. Um, how about Ted Bundy and George Clooney, then? Yup, brothers under the skin.

    1. Alan down in Florida on Mar 12, 2007 1:43:02 PM:

"That they are both attractive, gay and Latino?"

Do you think the conservatives would even have noticed Sanchez if he wasn't Latino and attractive. They are desperate to attract the Hispanic vote and Sanchez seemed the perfect role-filler. The fact that he is pro-military, articulate and Ivy League was just icing on the cake for the marketers still pushing the Republican "Big Tent" dog and pony show.

They will drop him so fast now that even David Brock's head will spin.

    1. RJP3 on Mar 19, 2007 4:48:38 PM:

THE PROBLEM IS ONLY THE LEFTIES WILL FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO MAKE PORN - OR BE GAY. PERIOD. The right wing is full of fundamentalists. Wake up Crain.

SO by admitting he is gay and in the military he will probably get kicked out of the millitary.. I guess in 30 years we will laugh at ourselves even making a big case out of this, just like gay marriage!

It truly is amazing to see what people do for attention. Being gay myself, I truly wonder what sort of message he is trying to send to and for all of us.

Funny how it is ALWAYS the rabid homophobe who has the day job ranting against the "Gay Agenda" and about "abominations unto the Lord" , who then gets caught with his bible closed and his fly wide open.
