Having it both ways on immigration
Posted by: Chris
It's not just on UAFA and immigration rights for gay Americans that the leading Democrats are waffling. They are talking out of both sides of their mouth on broader immigration issues, too.

That is akin to saying, John, that children eating too much candy is a problem, but then keeping free dishes of it on the cafeteria tables.
What most people are rightly realizing is this; the Democrat Party refuses to enforce and tries to block existing immigration laws ( http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/04/23/BAGOHPDLLT1.DTL ). Now they want to hand out candy to anyone who's here -- and make promises that they'll enforce the law better in the future.
My answer: Enforce the law NOW and prove you can do it, and then in a few years we'll talk about candy for illegal immigrants.

Navarette's comments are somewhat silly. There isn't an inherent conflict between thinking that illegal immigration is a problem but that it makes sense to create a path to legalization for people who are here and productive members of our society, but entered the country illegally. Unless you're all about ideological purity rather than practical solutions to problems.
