Ironic headline of the year…
Posted by: Chris
…goes to: the Associated Press report on the Human Rights Campaign's latest 180 on whether it supports the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which for more than a decade has been the group's signature piece of legislation:
"Leading gay rights group supports job discrimination measure"
How crazy is it that this headline actually has a "man bites dog" quality to it in today's bassackward glbT rights movement?

It's hard to imagine a more pyrrhic "victory" for Barney Frank, HRC, and the Congressional Democrats than this futile piece of flawed legislation. Its craven compromises epitomize the many broken promises of the pseudo-Democratic Party and the straight-laced Washington Beltway lobbyists who dominate the Homosexual Rights Campaign. Absolutely no one predicts it will pass the Senate or survive a Bush veto. What ENDA actually marks is a watershed moment - the end of Barney Frank's credibility as Congressional leader of the LGBT movement and the public exposure of the HRC's betrayal of trans and gender variant people. Nothing they say will ever be trusted again.

We truly live in a world gone mad when a piece of civil rights legislation as monumental as ENDA passes the US House of Representatives and people complain about trannies being “thrown under the bus.” The fact is, gays and lesbians have been thrown under the bus by a militant, obnoxious sub-group that has hijacked the gay rights movement.
It was approximately nine years ago that gay civil rights organizations added transgender to the umbrella LGBT. No gay person asked for the inclusion of T, no gay person was consulted about the inclusion of T. What started as a good-faith inclusion has been a thorn in the side of the gay rights movement.
It is illogical and utterly selfish of the T community to jeopardize the thirty-five years of political struggle for gay people. The “sour grapes” attitude that ENDA will not pass the Senate or a Presidential veto is destructive to gay people. We have very real, powerful, and dangerous enemies on the far-right. Now, the sabotage and militant self-interest of the T community is an enemy just as dangerous. The passing of ENDA has been a real eye opener to gay people about whom our friends are and who they are not.
When idiots blather on about pyrrhic victories, they have no idea what they’re saying. Conservatives didn’t vote for ENDA, Progressives did. Barney Frank is a brilliant man who has courage, commitment, political aptitude, and political savvy. Thank God Barney Frank is in Congress. The committee-loving, consensus-building, pie-in-the-sky, theorist at NGLTF and HRC are useless.

Chris, The real story is today's vote, not some silly story about a man biting a dog.
Come on, Focus.
