    What racial truce?

    Posted by: Chris

Hillarybillchelsea Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama had apparently called a truce by the time of their Las Vegas debate last night in their sometimes bitter debate on race. Someone apparently forgot to tell Bill. Or maybe he forgot to tell himself.

Either way, in a speech the same day in Sparks, the former president turned attack dog managed to play the race card and the gender card and lie, all at the same time:

"Hillary has an enormous amount of African American support and Barack Obama has a lot of white people for him," he said in Sparks.

"There's still some African Americans who support Barack, even though they like Hillary, because they think he is the first African American to have a chance to be president," Clinton said. "And there's a lot of women who are voting for Hillary, even though they like Sen. Obama, because they think it would be better if a woman broke the glass ceiling."

So blacks and women like Hillary, and most of both groups support her; while no one likes Obama, but a minority of blacks support him because of his race.

And it's not even true. The latest Gallop poll shows Obama backed by 57 percent of African Americans nationwide, an advantage of 25 percentage points over Hillary.

Keep up the shuck and jive, Bill.

BILL: "there's a lot of women ... like Sen. Obama"

CHRIS: "So .... no one likes Obama"

Really, dude, you're smarter than this, and, I once thought, had more integrity. It's one thing to attempt to spin, mind read, blah, blah, blah. But when you simply contradict the words in front of you.... Have you ever tried writing something; leaving it awhile; and then rereading before posting?

Concerning your decision to feature 'guest bloggers', I would like to express my distinct displeasure. I am a regular visitor to this blog b/c you write it. If I wanted to read another then I would visit their site. I noted the comments following your announcement today and am unfortunately not able to line up w/ the 'Amen Choir' at all.
It has been a joy getting to know you through this blog which bears your personal stamp. It is wonderful all the work you have done w/o the assistance of another to contaminate what is genuinely all yours. Besides the bottomline here, is that this blog, along w/ the Gay News Watch, are important not b/c of what they are now but b/c of what they will one day become in the much larger scheme of things.

Have you ever tried avoiding caffeinated beverages and sugar on days with a 'Y' in it? Jus' asking...

Good catch, Chris. There was also the howler when the former president said, with a straight face, that their opponent is "the establishment" and they are the real change. Just as shameless as ever.

Ah, the crows of identity politics coming home to roost.

Craig, Craig, Craig. Have a drink. It will calm your nerves, and dull the pain of facts you don't like.

I really must share your funny at my next AA meeting. Still, nice to see the Clintonistas sticking to the Rove play book to the bitter end -- bitter, twisted, and turning Freudian projection into a fine art.

    1. Michael Bedwell on Jan 17, 2008 3:55:05 PM:

Craig, perhaps you should look into a Clinton Haters Anonymous meeting, for you've simply replaced one addiction with another and what is it getting you?

    1. Craig Ranapia on Jan 17, 2008 4:32:34 PM:

      what is it getting you?

Well, Michael, I wear with pride the contempt of right-wingnuts who regard any criticism of George W. Bush or the GOP (even from the right) as nothing more than 'Bush Derangement Syndrome'.

Seriously, Mike, keep working through that Rove playbook. It's about time for you to start frothing that anyone who decline to kiss Clinton ass is a bad American, and if you vote for Obama the evil-doers win!

      Dawn Keeler,
Not to worry about Kevin as a guest blogger, he and Chris practically share the same brain. ;-)

      Chris,
I hope this is not the best example of Race/Gender card. This was both very lame and extremely tame.

    1. Chris on Jan 18, 2008 11:13:33 AM:

Michael: You're parsing my words a bit. In context, "no one likes Obama" meant "no one likes Obama more." Hopefully that clears that up for you. Interesting that you didn't respond to the outright falsehood/inaccuracy by Bill Clinton on who blacks support.

Dawn: Thanks for the kind words but no reason for concern. I won't be posting any less than I do now. It's just that in addition to my posts, there'll be some from Kevin and a few other folks. They'll all be clearly identified at the top of the post under the headline.
