    'Dr.' Barack Obama

    Posted by: Andoni

Breitbart.tv has assembled a series of video clips showing people fainting during Barack Obama rallies. The interesting thing to me as a physician is how Obama responds to these "mini-emergencies" that occur in the middle of his speech. Take a look:

    What I noticed is:

    1. he remains calm
    2. he takes command
    3. he shouts out orders and directions that are by and large medically sound
    4. and finally he seems genuinely concerned about the person who fell or fainted

As a doctor, I can't tell you how often I've experienced people panicking and doing entirely inappropriate things when someone has a problem in a crowd. Considering these are unscripted moments, I believe these moments give us a genuine glimpse at Obama -- how he can think on his feet, remain calm and handle a situation. I like what I see.

If I were the official medical consultant to the campaign (hint, hint), I might take a few minutes to train Barack (since people seem to be fainting all around him) to also add:

    1. lie the patient down
    2. raise the patient's legs a bit
    3. give water very carefully, lest the patient aspirate
    4. someone dial 911

Then again, maybe this is a bit much for a non-physician. I certainly don't want to invite any malpractice suits Obama's way.

This is the song that Obama reminds me of.

      http://www.hamienet.com/midi7595_Superstar.html

      Barack Obama, Superstar.

Who are you, what kind of change are you are talking about?

      Barack Obama, Superstar,

Who are you, what kind of change are you are talking about?

      Barack Obama, Superstar

Who are you, what kind of change are you talking about?

Adoph Hitler could really rally those masses, and Olde Joe Stalin could make them walk barefoot through broken glasses, And Ho Chin Minn, he could bring the crowd in, and that Po Pot he know how his words could make them hot...

      Now do you believe?

Now Marshall Applewhite made them think that they were going to go to Heaven on a comet, and David Koresh he sent his faithful on a path to Armageddon. And of course we all know about olde Jim Jones. His people did what he told em and that Kool-aid got overflowin...

Now do you believe? (the mesmerized crowd shouts back Yes we Believe) Now do you believe?(louder) Yes, we believe! Hallelujah now get that sister some water (the front row of women then faints).

      Barack Obama, Superstar,

Who are you, what kind of change are you are talking about?

      Barack Obama, Superstar

Who are you, what kind of change are you talking about?

Now do you see yourself as as Che's Second comin... Or maybe you set yourself up on a path even higher. Perhaps you do see yourself as the new Messiah, start a new religion with your as its idol.

      Do you believe?

Cults of personalities well they very rarely end well and with yours it could set the earth a trembling... For when you come unglued as all cult leaders in the end do, you could push that nuclear button and set the earth afire..

Come on now, this is just a bit over the top. Heck, I voted for the man and I think this is over the top. Just because some people faint and the man keeps his head, you infer ... what, exactly? What else but that the man is presidential material. A bit of a reach.

my history might be fuzzy but didn't Obama invent the internet?

      Chris,

Give it a rest with Obama! I have seen several people faint on CNN at Clinton rallies as well. It happens, these people are waiting for hours to see the candidates! Chill out with the Obama plugs.

This is over the top! I voted for Obama. In fairness, I think Clinton is a very qualified, likeable, experienced knowlegable candidate. However, since voting, I'm having buyer's remorse now! I have noticed in the media (all networks - including Fox), Obama receives better treatment than Clinton. The media covers Obama with more positive spin, there are no in depth discussions or challenging him on the serious issues. Nor does the media point out Obama's many attacks on the Clinton camp. On the other hand, Clinton receives less coverage, more negative spin, she is constantly challenged on her every move and word. Clinton has even challenged on her wardrobe and hair selections! Are the candidate really competing with each other? No! The major networks are competing to sell the American veiwer the candidate they favor... Obama! By the power of suggestion, in my opinion, the media networks are marketing and selecting the presidential candidates. Over the recent months, it's becoming increasing visible the media favors Obama to Clinton. Which should be of no surprise, as Obama's campaign organization is managed by a media guru. However, from my perception, there is a disturbing trend happening with in the media coverage of the two candidates. No networks or person, wants to be perceived or labeled as a raciest, Obama is the first African American candidate with an actual opportunity. Therefore, Obama is getting special treatment with the media. Clinton is not being afforded the same consideration.... and it's become acceptable to be a sexist in the media. Equal rights means equal for all!

    1. Kevin on Feb 18, 2008 6:08:47 PM:

So you have buyer's remorse because of what the media is or is not covering? I think that says more about the integrity of your decision-making, Sloan, than it says about the candidates.

    1. Sloan on Feb 18, 2008 11:46:09 PM:

Thanks for your input Kevin. I live in one of the early states to cast votes. While I believed, being an African American male, Clinton has more experience, better outlined agenda and superior health care plan. I was willing to give Obama a chance being the "fresh face" on the block. However, since casting my vote, Obama has not clearly outline his agendas further, he is merely riding the media wave now. Playing politics as usual, that's not a heartfelt agent of true "change"! Regretfully, my views have changed about Obama. I am not willing to vote for him in a general election. I will say, the issue of race is dividing the black community. I have been bashed heavily for no longer being willing to support Obama, just because he is black man. Additionally, the race between Obama and Clinton is not helping the cause of women. On two front, it's dividing American, sexism and racism. There are real serious problems in this country today. It's going to take a president with experience to make those tough choices for real change. Obama talks a good talk, but he's not walking the walk! Bush ran as an agent of change and as a person to unite the country as well. Look what a damn mess that has caused!

    1. Kevin on Feb 19, 2008 1:09:16 AM:

I don't see how Clinton or Obama are hurting anyone's "cause." The fact that a woman and a black man are both so politically powerful, and commanding such an amazing response from the public, has done more for the causes of racial and sexual equality than any other campaign run before them.

Again - they held a zillion debates, and had been running for president for a long time before the primaries began. They have both taken plenty of public positions -- they have both written several books. They're out there. You made a decision. To act like you are somehow changing your mind because of what *hasn't* happened since you voted, plus the cliched recitation of Clinton-spin about Obama, is quite unconvincing.

    1. Andoni on Feb 19, 2008 9:02:18 AM:

OK, I stepped in it on this one.

Maybe I should have been forewarned when I showed the video clip to my partner and just like Tim, he said, "I think those people are faking it." (I should have listened to you, dear.)

But now, that I'm already in the do-do, let me say this:

Matt, if indeed Obama cured your cancer, there's big money to be made in the miracle biz with pilgrimages. Here in Georgia, we had a family that found one of their walls 'tearing.' They said it was Mary's tears and once a month they made a ton of money, charging pilgrims from all over the country to see the miracle.

And Tim, I think you're mistaken. Obama didn't invent the Internet, my roommate at MIT did.

I agree with most of you; I read more into it than was probably really ever there. Cute video though.
