    Feinstein says "No on 8!"

    Posted by: Andoni

Diane_feinsteinIn a long awaited move, California Senator Diane Feinstein came out against California's Proposition 8 in an ad released tonight.

Feinstein says, "Proposition 8 would be a terrible mistake for California. It's about discrimination and we must always say NO to that."

You can view the ad here.

Also, now groups opposing Prop 8 need more money to air the ad in this crucial week before the vote and you can help with that here. I have given multiple times and am giving again tonight because of this powerful ad. I hope you will do the same.

Many thanks to my ACLU board colleague Robert who is Feinstein's next door neighbor and I believe had something to do with getting Senator Feinstein into action.

Well, I'm glad she has finally stepped up to the plate on this issue. Frankly, I wish she'd done it sooner, but better late than never.

To her credit, this is somewhat risky for her. She enjoys broad support from Democrats AND many Republican--this may damage her reputation among some of her GOP supporters. Let's hope not. Who knows ... maybe her statute and popularity will give us a much needed boost on Tuesday, November 4.

      Thanks, Dianne!

Maria Shriver had the guts to make a public comment against Prop 8 as well. Too bad her husband is such a girly-man, hiding behind his wife's skirt, afraid to make an emphatic public statement opposing Prop H8.

Yeah, I knew the governor wouldn't take a firm stand on this issue. His rating among fellow Republicans has dropped faster than the Dow, and I'm quite certain he doesn't want to antagonize the CA GOP any more than necessary.

And, on the subject of the GOP, I have to tip my hat to the Log Cabin/Republicans Against 8. They don't have the funds to run ads on TV, but they are distributing a video message to their fellow Republicans on e-mail and it's quite good. For once, I think they've done something worthwhile!

Wow and only a week before the election, that's really making a stand.

I actually donated a second time this morning and wrote an entry on my blog last week that received more than 5,200 views. (Sure, no Citizen Crain, but we all have a part to play...)

It is wonderful that Senator Feinstein finally lent her support to the No on 8 initiative, but I'm wondering what took her so long.

She had to wait for her neighbor to convince her? What bullsh*t! It appears that the Republican Governor of California is more of a friend to LGBT Californians than Sen. Fienstein. What the Hell is wrong with her? I guess if it doesn't have something to do with killing unborn babies she doesn't pay attention.

Uh, no dumb ass. Governor Schwartzenegger has been largely silent on this issue. He offered his tepid, lukewarm opposition to Prop 8 several months ago, and that's pretty much been it. Dianne Feinstein just did a TV ad that will be viewed statewide for about a week. Dianne is a much better friend to the GLBT community. Oh, and you're an idiot.
