    McCain-Obama role reversal

    Posted by: Andoni

This evening on "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," Keith Olbermann made a special comment addressing the numerous gaffs and errors Senator John McCain has made during this campaign. He wonders what would have happened if Senator Barack Obama had been the one to make these rather serious errors instead of McCain and then provides edited video clips to give us an idea of how it would have sounded.

Does anyone doubt that had Obama been the one to make these errors, he would have been out of the race long ago?

I'm sorry, I got a bit of Ben Affleck impersonating Keith Olbermann on the latest SNL from that clip. Yeah, there is a point. But he didn't make it. I don't think it's entirely surprising that McCain and Obama have been judged by different standards, given their different levels of experience and backgrounds. I think it's sad if this campaign is McCain's whole legacy (though it's only his fault if it is). But I don't fault the media that much for giving him the benefit of the doubt. He had a few "gimmes" in his pocket. And he used them all. Barack, on the other hand, had to come out of the gates like a shiny new frontrunner, and he did that.
